Comments about oreilly Access 2010: The Missing Manual:

Comprehensive and very well written. The book covers not only how Access Works but also how a database should be built to keep data integrity and avoid redundant data.
A basic understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel) is all you need to use this book.
The book introduces som more advanced topics like SQL, Sharepoint and Visual Basic but you would want another book for in depth knowledge of these subjects.

Comments about oreilly Access 2010: The Missing Manual:

I use Excel to organize scrambled data or confusion in any application I see fit. From Song lists to Financial data, Excel has always been useful in defining the mold. Larger quantities of data usually lead me to develop a database, but Excel lets you visually organize your thinking on unstructured problems.

Excel's flexibility sometimes permits sloppiness, which one would not necessarily find with a solid database application. However, there are so many useful tips in this book, I already see where I can avoid "churning" and get to a more focussed solution quickly.
