Comments about O'Reilly Media App Savvy:

      App Savvy by Ken Yarmosh

A fabulous book which will not teach you to code but will teach you how to think, watch the competition, hone your skills to be successful in creating apps that sell.

"Turning idea's into iPad And iPhone apps customers really want". This is the core philosophy behind this book. Apple have done a great job providing the tools to create great apps. Ken Yarmosh's book provides the insights into creating great app idea's, testing those idea's and the marketing them. Ken Yarmosh also provides great insights into how the app market is developing, discovering trends, finding which apps are selling, proving you with strategies to watch these trends and reach useful conclusions!

Finding developers, the route to getting your app onto the app store and how to handle updates are also covered. Even if you have been around a while this book should I would expect provide some very useful insights.

O'Reilly publishing approached me with a view of reviewing books for them. Having a lot of respect for them I agreed. That does not mean automatic good reviews. This book though, is superb.

Comments about O'Reilly Media App Savvy:

App Savvy is a great book if you've got an idea for an iOS app or want to move into the space. It has a good introduction to the topics that you should be thinking about, presenting a strategy for how to produce a successful app. I've recently received an iPad and can see some opportunity for Ephox on the platform. App Savvy has helped me frame my thinking around what this might look like, and how to go about producing a successful app. While the book suggests acting while reading, I've been using it as my background reading first. If I start moving forward with an app I expect to reread parts of the book. I've definitely been making copious use of the iBook highlight and bookmark functions as I've been reading. One of the only drawbacks in what I've seen is that there is a little too much jumping around to different chapters as the author gets the mix of content flow and timelines right. I'm not sure if it was avoidable, but I did find it a little bit awkward at times. Overall this is a good book, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking at putting together an iOS app.

Comments about O'Reilly Media App Savvy:

The App Store has its own idiosyncrasies that can be confusing for a first-time developer trying to learn the creation and app submission process. Before you launch your first app to the App Store, be sure to read this book first! This book doesn't only cover apps -- it's also a helpful general business primer when it comes to strategy and marketing. If you have a "great app idea" and don't know where to start, this book will get you rolling by giving you an inside view of the entire process. I enjoyed this book because the information was concise and not wordy. One of my favorite features of this book is that at the end of every chapter, Ken interviews successful App Store developers so you can glean from their experiences. There are already lots of books that explain iOS coding. This book isn't about writing iOS code, but instead is about everything to do with building your own successful application and launching and marketing it to the world. Enjoyable read, and I definitely recommend it for anyone interested in getting into the mobile app business.
