Comments about oreilly Head First jQuery:

O'reilly Head First jQuery By Ryan Benedetti, Ronan Cranley is Yet another great read from Head First series. The best read one can get if you are venturing into web design that requires high level of interactions. The book follows a beginner centric approach yet comprehensive that covers everything that a pro web designer should know about CSS, HTML, JavaScript, AJAX, PHP, MySQL, JSON, XML. the team has not even spared PHP & MySql this time, as you can find them in the appendix. The book as with any other regular HF book has a consistent set of problems and the dramatic unfolding of each and every feature as the need arises.

In comparison with other Jquery books, this is one book that goes into the soul of Jquery rather than simply a technical round-up. In simple words its great fun to read the book throughout. But it seems HF team had gone a bit far in simplifying things. It feels like the book tries to cover a lot, rather a lot more than what a book can contain and therefore an overall reduction in level of jquery content.

As a final verdict i would recommend this book to someone who is an absolute beginner jquery but has got some experience web design especially ajax and javascript. Quoting from HF JS book this book is all about "Lights, Camera and Interaction"

Comments about oreilly Head First jQuery:

As all Head First books I know so far, also this one is simply great. But: At least the PDF edition I bought 3 days ago contains so many errors that it should undergo serious proof reading again.
The errors are technical, so if you're a beginner and start to learn jQuery with this book, it might cause damage to your understanding.
Dear folks at O'Reilly: Please withdraw the first edition and do your homework. You could then also update the contents to use jQuery 1.7 (e.g. using on() and off() instead off bind() and unbind().
    Nevertheless I love this series!

I will definitely recommend this book to my friends as soon as the errors are corrected!

Comments about oreilly Head First jQuery:

Head First jQuery : This is the latest addition to 'Head First' series books and is in its first edition. Its a 500+ pages book which I havent completed reading yet. But from what I have read I feel, this book can quickly get you up to speed in learning jQuery, a javascript framework. This framework by itself is so easy and makes working with javascript a breeze. In this book you can learn how to add cool interactive features to your website or webapplication, how to traverse the DOM or build interaction with ajax. There is also a chapter on jSON and jQuery UI.

The authors Ryan and Ronan are well experienced folks and have come up with very useful material. A little knowledge of PHP and mySQL is needed to understand certain chapters. If you are an experienced programmer then identifying what the PHP code does isnt difficult at all. You can easily correlate the PHP code to language you use.

Comments about oreilly Head First jQuery:

It might sound strange, but first thing I am grateful to Ryan and Ronan is mentioning TextWrangler in the beginning of the book. This way I got familiar with very simple, useful, and free (free as in free beer) editor for Mac OS :)

I haven't used jQuery before, and I wanted to see what it is all about. First of all, I like to learn by examples - and you got them here. All in one piece - zipped - directly on your hard drive from the Head First Lab web page (each example contains corresponding jQuery library). This is nice. You simply don't have to copy-paste everything you see in the book into your text editor. When it comes to the content. Well, this is always hard thing to judge. I know people who hate Head First series. They say it is not sophisticated enough. I am, on the contrary, a great fan of Head First. jQuery, like any other Head First series book, gives you simple, straight overview of the topic. OK, it will not provide you with as much text as other books, but hey, "A picture is worth a thousand words". And you will find lots of them here. However, if you consider yourself a hacker, don't buy it. It's rather for beginners. If you are a beginner - I'd consider buying it.
