Learn how to build your own video mixer from scratch with the Processing programming language and the Arduino electronics prototyping platform. If you’re familiar with these easy-to-use technologies, this two-hour video course will help you create video mixing software that lets you load video files and live camera input, crossfade between video sources, and display the mix in real time. This fun and engaging class is ideal for artists, designers, students, engineers, and hobbyists, and anyone looking to expand their digital toolkit.
Joseph Gray is a Seattle based artist and designer. He has taught workshops at 911 Media Arts Center and Metrix Create Space on Processing and Arduino. Joseph earned a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in 1999, focusing in video and sculpture. Since then he has worked with digital art and design practices for both artistic projects and commercial design applications. He began learning programming working in the graphic design industry, which quickly led to creating custom software and hardware tools for art installations and visual performances. His sculptural and performance work has been exhibited at Unit B Gallery in San Antonio, TX; Meridian Gallery and The Lab in San Francisco, CA and a multitude of venues in the Pacific Northwest including 911 Media, Bumbershoot and the Seattle Art Museum Gallery. Comments about O'Reilly Media Processing and Arduino in Tandem: Video Mixer:
This video class walks the user through a series of online labs and demos, showing how to build a visual mixer using Processing, and how to interactively control it using an Arduino, hooked up to a set of switches and potentiometers (called a ProjBox). The complete suite of code is also available for download.
This class is an excellent exposition of the topic, and shows you how to very quickly put together a workable visual editor, using open source tools. It also does a very good job showing what a powerful and versatile platform Processing is.

After watching this, I used the base idea to make an IRC-controlled multi-camera setup.
Helps if you either already know a little about Processing and Arduino, or have already used and understood the main Processing/Arduino in Tandem course.
