Comments about oreilly Developing Business Intelligence Apps for SharePoint:

The review headline is taken from the introduction: "Why You Need to Read This Book". This book aims to give you: ". . . the techniques you need to build effective business solutions using SharePoint,LightSwitch, and SQL 2012". The book explains why these Microsoft tools and services make sense in the post-PC era.
The authors start very basic with database normalisation etc. in Part 1 then go on to cover LightSwitch and it's importance in the stack. I'm pleased to see that these guys really 'get' LightSwitch. Part 3 moves onto BI and Part 4 Excel Pivot tables and Power View 2013 with Part 5 covering the vital area of configuration to deliver solutions. Great book structure IMO.

My only criticism is that the book plays it safe & covers older tech and, while it mentions the LightSwitch HTML client and the Web PI perhaps it was released a little too early to reference LightSwitch Update 3 or Web PI 4.6 so it's not right up-to-date for deployments. The book really needs an update with a focus on Office 365 SharePoint with the 2013 Experience and a big focus on mobility apps in support of post-PC dev. IMO.

This book is very clear with a great writing style. The authors should be very proud of it.
