Comments about oreilly CSS3: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition:

I am still reading this book. Great as a resource, I bought it most especially for the last 200 pages. However, I found the text explains even familiar material in a thoughtful context and has a strong performance focus. Addresses web styles and styling with a holistic perspective in terms of both benefiting your designs and aiding your overall coding choices.

Comments about oreilly CSS3: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition:

I use this book as the main vehicle to drive my students learning for it's detailed approach.

It would be fantastic if some form of electronic support containing website example could be offered.

Comments about oreilly CSS3: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition:

O'Reilly books have been a mainstay in my professional library for years. In fact, I have used them as textbook and reference support in my undergraduate and graduate university courses in Computer Science and in my software developer work. I also currently have an ongoing subscription to Safari Books Online (www.safaribooksonline.com) which I highly recommend to anyone teaching a technical curriculum or doing software development. I use the online resources every day. Based on that, I also buy hard copy of the books that show best practices and that provide reference material I need at hand. safaribooksonline provides books and videos from many different publishers including O'Reilly. It is a major technical library which is available 24/7 that I can use anywhere I am including my primary work environment.

Comments about oreilly CSS3: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition:

The subject is complex and wide.
The book is very well organized and written.
              The explanations are clear.
All derived and operational topics you can imagine are mentioned, generally with additional explanations, or at least by providing additional references.
This is a perfect book to start learning and then to deep dive.

Comments about oreilly CSS3: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition:

I am only 1/2 way through the book, but so far it is very easy to read and presents a lot of useful examples. I feel like I am already able to understand examples and CSS written by others much faster. My only complaint is that it is a bit repetitious, explaining some topics in multiple chapters instead of referencing them. This makes reading the book cover to cover a bit time consuming, however, it may come in handy later when using it as a reference.

Comments about oreilly CSS3: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition:

I've been looking far and wide for a book to introduce and explain CSS3 concepts and features, but all of the books I encountered only touched on CSS3 and continued using third-party frameworks etc. to get things done.

CSS3: The Missing Manual on the other hand offers exactly what the title states - A manual for CSS3.

CSS3 concepts and features are covered at a level that students and novice HTML programmers will find easy to follow. Intermediate programmers can easily use this book as a go-to reference for CSS3.

The book is very well written and super easy to read. When you read a book and glance at the page number to find you've already read 80 pages since starting, you know it's well written.

I've been recommending this book to anybody asking if I know of a book that can teach them CSS3 and I will continue to do so.

This is an excellent book to have in one's library.

Comments about oreilly CSS3: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition:

This book includes thorough explanations, good diagrams and illustrations, and clear examples and tutorials. There are good discussions on browser support/gotchas for many CSS elements and properties. The book is essentially up-to-date as of mid-2013; only a very few links required a search to find the relevant site. There are many useful references throughout, such as using the Ultimate CSS Gradient Generator. The author sprinkles in occasional flashes of humor, without being overbearing.

After working through the entire book and all of the examples, the only change I would recommend is the author should shorten or eliminate some of the repetitive explanations. For example, there is no need to explain, "... press Enter (Return) to create a new blank line..." in every example. Instead, say, "... create a blank line..." after the first example. Similarly, there is no need to explain how to download the tutorial files in every chapter. For readers who jump into the middle, a brief reference to a single page that explains the download would do just fine.

Overall, the 3rd edition of CSS3: The Missing Manual is an outstanding resource.
