Comments about oreilly Strata Conference Santa Clara 2012: Complete Video Compilation:

The Strata Conference Making Data Work at Santa Clara 2012: Complete Video Compilation has to be the best collection of presentation that I have seen so far. If you are at all interested in Big Data, Machine Learning, Hadoop, R, and many more great topics covered throughout the 106 hours and 10 minutes that you get, then this is for you. There is so much great information presented throughout all of these presentation and I just couldn't get enough. The cost might seem like a lot, but it is much cheaper than attending in person expecially if you have to travel to attend. Plus, you get to see all of the lectures intead of just attending a few.

Therefore, if you are interested in these topics, a R&D researcher, or a Data Scientist, then this video compilation of the Strata Conference Making Data Work is something that you need to get. You will not be disappointed and hopefully it will inspire you as it has me.

These videos are a great resource for anyone interested in data science. There's workshops on Data Visualization, Data Mining with R, Hadoop, and much much more. Cost is high but still cheaper than attending in person. Plus all the sessions are available, over 100 hours. That's about $4 per hour for some great content.

Comments about oreilly Strata Conference Santa Clara 2012: Complete Video Compilation:

To say that this conference is extensive is an understatement. The courses are well presented. In both subject matter and depth. As a novice I didn't feel overwhelmed by all the information.

I'm really looking forward to putting this information to use.

Buy it if you can answer yes to anyone of these questions.

Do you want more than an overview on this subject?

Do you want to see and understand how different disciplines converge to create visualizations?

Are you prepared to say "Oh that make sense now!" a lot while every thing clicks in your mind?

Do you want to interpret data in a meaningful way for yourself and others?

If you are willing to put in the work. This will put you on the right path. O'reilly should call this an outline to mastery.

Disclosure : This video compilation was provided free of charge by O'reilly Media.

Comments about oreilly Strata Conference Santa Clara 2012: Complete Video Compilation:

The Strata Conference has become the most important event of the industry since its start last year. The Complete Video Compilation contains gives you the feeling of a conference thanks to the high quality of the videos.

I really enjoyed the diversity of the talks. As the field is relatively new, it is hard to find sources on the business side of big data and professional issues of data science. Also, you can learn everything about the Hadoop ecosystem and the noSQL movement from the workshop videos.

I'd recommend the Complete Video Compilation to anyone who's interested in big data, I'm sure developers, researchers, and even business people can find several videos that teach them something new and valuable.

Comments about oreilly Strata Conference Santa Clara 2012: Complete Video Compilation:

This conference provides the depth and breadth of the Big data domian, its problems, tools, methodologies and startup companies involved.

If you are just getting started or already played with some popular tools like R, Hadoop or cassandra then this video collection gives you a better perspective of Big Data problem space. It gives you good insights into identifying data problems and trying out few approaches using the tools presented here.

I think this is a rapidly expanding area in technology. All the Big data people from different backgrounds are getting together, discussing and defining the spectrum.

The length of the videos together is also big, more than 110 hours. The best way I found to get the maximum out of this collection was to browse first very quickly to get familiar with the namespace, names of tools, techniques and the companies involved. Watching 5 to 10 mins of every video gives you a good idea about what the talk is going to be. Some presentations are so easy to get started you will want to watch it through to completion while others are slightly difficult to setup. If you know how to setup a virtual machine on your desktop you will get through most of the hands on tutorial series.

After watching the collection my idea of Big data is a little bit of statistics, bit of machine learning,
bit of language processing, some good bigdata tools, meaningful datasets and Kaggle.

This is an excellent video compilation by all measurable standards. I had absolutely just a little idea was Hadoop was and very little knowledge about the challenges facing today's world in "Big Data" terms that traditional databases (SQL!) were not able to meet. I absolutely loved watching all of the Hadoop videos. I admit I was totally biased towards Hadoop as that is the next big thing at my work place and everyone wants to jump in. This video series has made me quite competent and confident in speaking about Hadoop, discussing ideas with my superior and peers, and earning tremendous respect with other virtual teams at my work place. I didn't miss being at the conference at all. This video takes you right there. Anyway, I wouldn't have had the time to be at all the sessions unless I cloned myself. This entire compilation let's me watch videos on my time.

I will be watching videos on the other topics like Geo Data visualization, Apache Cassandra, etc, when I am a little bit over the Hadoop fever. This is a priceless collection!
