Comments about oreilly State of the Computer Book Market 2011:

As the name explains, the book looks into various insights of the book market based on the sales by major publishing companies including O'Reilly Media. The books goes into categorizing various sections of computer book market based on various technologies showcasing the growth and decline of interests in each of them.

As you could go on and on about the various segments, book also lists about the various type of books (for dummies, sams teach yourself) which people were interested in 2011. Though it gives out a little late (as we are in 2012), the methodologies about the analysis is quite impressive in the book. The books lists out various charts and graph comparing the sections and presenting the analysis in better way.

Though the physical book sales have been nearly flat (or declining), books shows insight that there are more number of books available as compared to last year. The average sales of book have declined. Book also lists out units sold per author also listing who has been more profitable. David Pogue comes out to be interesting author.

Ebook sales have been growing however book lists the buyer demographies and their analysis too.

Book also predicts as they have seen, rising interest in technological books based on the product launches like the iPad and so on. I would recommend this book to students/hobbyists who are interested in knowing where the Computer Book market is heading. They can learn a lot from the facts and figures in this book. For analysts, this book serves as a good example of how analysis should be done. Good work Mike Hendrickson!
