Head First C#, 3rd Edition
A Learner's Guide to Real-World Programming with C#, XAML, and .NET
Publisher: O'Reilly Media
Final Release Date: August 2013
Pages: 1100

Head First C# is a complete learning experience for learning how to program with C#, XAML, the .NET Framework, and Visual Studio. Fun and highly visual, this introduction to C# is designed to keep you engaged and entertained from first page to last. Updated for Windows 8.1 and Visual Studio 2013, and includes projects for all previous versions of Windows (included in the book, no additional downloading or printing required).

You’ll build a fully functional video game in the opening chapter, and then learn how to use classes and object-oriented programming, draw graphics and animation, and query data with LINQ and serialize it to files. And you'll do it all by creating games, solving puzzles, and doing hands-on projects. By the time you're done, you'll be a solid C# programmer—and you'll have a great time along the way!

  • Create a fun arcade game in the first chapter, and build games and other projects throughout the book
  • Learn how to use XAML to design attractive and interactive pages and windows
  • Build modern Windows Store apps using the latest Microsoft technology
  • Learn WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) using the downloadable WPF Learner's Guide
  • Using the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern to create robust architecture
  • Build a bonus Windows Phone project and run it in the Visual Studio Windows Phone emulator

Projects in the book work with all editions of Visual Studio, including the free Express editions.

Comments about oreilly Head First C#, 3rd Edition:

Even the very first example does not work on windows 7. I cannot find the menu points as indicated in the book. I buy a book to have all materail at hand. I don't want to download more outdated stuff to go through outdated examples...
The basic idea of the book should be c#, not a microsoft marketing show like "how to convince customers to buy windows 8"!
If the book depends on windows 8, why is there no hint on the cover????????????????????
      I thought I bought a c# book...

Comments about oreilly Head First C#, 3rd Edition:

Challenging exercises and fun writing make this a good introduction to the C#. However, if you have never programmed before, you will find this book very confusing and not really useful. Learn programming concepts elsewhere.

Comments about oreilly Head First C#, 3rd Edition:

We utilized this product for a term as our text book for C#. The ability to use the book resources during various part of the term were great so we didn't have to recreate items and code from scratch. However, i found the book to be pretty confusing from a beginners view of the book itself. With so much insertion as you try to read the book and not knowing if the insertion belows to what you are reading of else where on the book. I'm sure it's filled with lots of good and useful information have fun trying to find it.

Comments about oreilly Head First C#, 3rd Edition:

I, like a lot of people bought this book with the expectation to be able to start on page one, follow it exactly and arrive at the same result's as the instructors. This did not occur. The book itself is designed for Windows 8.0 and Visual Studio 2012. I however am running Window's 8.1 and VS2013. They have provided the first 3 updated chapters available for download which will assist with getting past these Window's store focused chapters. All in all, I still recommend the HeadFirst line of books due to their originality and their ability to keep me focused on the project at hand.
