Comments about oreilly Communicating Data with Tableau:

I've been using Tableau for a while, but this book showed me new approaches and techniques I haven't thought of before.Accessing and organizing the data are two huge issues in data visualization but at the forefront there is communication for sure and this book gives a huge advantage on that. Either you're a newbie in the field of dataviz or an elder with solid knowledge, you can use this book to get new practices and insights on the fly. It helps you understand the basic concepts of statistics as well since when you use Tableau for dataviz you surely need to know these, like mean and average and other sweeties. And this is important, since communication in this case does not necessarily mean visual communication, but communication in general, or communication of some data phenomenon. That differs from colors and type sizes in a more conceptual way that of the visualizaton expert have to be familiar with as well.
One aspect that I'd reconsider is the too heavy cultural context that the book uses for examples. These aren't obvious for a european or an asian reader and I think Tableau is heavily used on these continents too. But at least you get to know baits, don't you?

You are led through real world examples using the accompanying downloadable data sets. The examples are engaging, using data from various topics such as baseball, hurricanes and internet usage data.
