Comments about oreilly Photoshop Elements 13: The Missing Manual:

The one thing that would be a great help when reading this book while not at the computer is more illustrations of the tool bars and menu selections to refer to while reading. Barbara Brundage writes with great clarity and her humor makes reading more fun. She also points out when Adobe could have done better showing that she is NOT just an Adobe cheerleader. I could not have learned my first version (Elements 10) without her guidance.

Photoshop Elements 13 - The Missing Manual
        Author: Barbara Brundage
        Publisher: O'Reilly Media
        Date: September, 2014
        ISBN: 978-1-491-94721-0

O'Reilly's Missing Manual series represents the best-of-the-best in technical books. The by-line is: The Book That Should Have Been In The Box. When software on a CD was sold in a box, this applied, but now, it's even more important. Most software is downloaded now and there is never a physical manual included. This is why the Missing Manual series serves such an important role.

This extensive series is written by some of the best tech writers in the business. The author of the 600+ page Photoshop Elements 13 Missing Manual is Barbara Brundage. She has written the previous PSE books and knows the software inside and out. Her writing is clear, instructive, and approachable. If you are new to Elements or are a longtime user, this book will be helpful.

Adobe updates Photoshop Elements annually and each iteration features many improvements and enhancements. Elements 13 is no exception. Some of the new features are: a refined selection brush, suggested cropping guides, content-aware fill, new Guided Edits (black and white as well as specific color selection), and an Organizer update with new view options. Completely new this time is a fourth tab at the top of the window called Elements Live or eLive. Provided you have a live internet connection, you can browse a large library of tutorials, tips, how-tos, and even view photos by pros to give to some photographic inspiration. Adobe plans to continuously update the eLive section.

Photoshop Elements has several Photomerge settings allowing you to stitch together panoramas and perform other impressive feats. The new one this time is Photomerge Compose. Here you can take a person or object from one photo and add it to another. Once you have done that, you can scale the addition in size as well as adjust its lighting.

One thing that is often missing in technical books is a 'What's New in this Version' section. It's often frustrating if you're familiar with the software and just want to learn about its new features. I'm grateful to see a What's New section in this book.

Photoshop Elements is a product that I depend on and use nearly every day. Barbara Brundage's knowledge of this important software is deep and thorough. This reference book on PSE 13 contains good, clear writing about a piece of must-have software for photographers of all skill levels. A great combination. Very highly recommended.
