Comments about oreilly Learning iPython Notebook:

This video series gives a good clear introduction to iPython notebook. The author/presenter is clear, organized and on topic throughout the set of videos. After a brief discussion of installation, the iPython notebook is introduced and the presenter uses it in the context of a simple project to illustrate basic Python, lists, strings, functions, control flow. If you know Python well you might want to fast-forward through this or listen at an advanced playback speed.

More advanced libraries are introduced, requests, matplotlib and pandas to supplement a second project analyzing stock prices. The author/presenter does not go into a deep dive into each library but selects what is useful to the overall project and explains it within the context of that project.

The nbconvert utility is also covered at different points showing how an iPython notebook can be translated into a series of slides.

    Some minor disadvantages:

    - the current iPython notebook uses a different format than that used in presentation. This creates problems when the notebook is read in and parsed.
    - Some example code depends on specific URLs which may not work or point to the same place.
    - pandoc was installed in the beginning of the presentation but I do not remember it being used.
