Comments about oreilly Learning Unix for OS X, 2nd Edition:

It mad read updated on the cover, but it is not. For example, it does not take into account the OS HFS in which Unix commands are files and therefore NOT case sensitive. However, file case doe come into play when using the tab key to complete a file name entry.

I feel that a real update and review is needed. It still remains a good BASIC introduction.
For those who feel that this little book is too basic, I suggest that you go get The Ultimate Guide by Sumitabha Das.

Comments about oreilly Learning Unix for OS X, 2nd Edition:

I had the first edition. I got it as an ebook for easier searching. I've not read the whole thing (even the 1st ed) but find it very useful.

Comments about oreilly Learning Unix for OS X, 2nd Edition:

If you are already familiar with UNIX or Linux this book may be too basic for you, but if you are just getting started it is a great way to get up to speed. There are a lot of good examples and explanations. Definitely a useful addition to your library.

Comments about oreilly Learning Unix for OS X, 2nd Edition:

A neat, step-by-step introduction to UNIX and the Terminal and Shell. Perfect for novices who want to explore the computer world. My only "complaint" is that it doesn't have a Vol. 2 !

Comments about oreilly Learning Unix for OS X, 2nd Edition:

As a Unix novice, I needed something that started at the beginning and led me though examples of use of the common Unix commands. It quickly got me up and running and now I'm experimenting with shell script.
