Comments about oreilly The Basics of Hacking and Penetration Testing, 2nd Edition:

This is an excellent introduction to the subject. It explains how to setup and use a penetration testing lab.

I would have liked to seen more examples that could be done with security in mind. In other words how does one investigate without causing problems on the internet?

Overall an excellent introduction to the subject.
