Colophon Our look is the result of reader comments, our own experimentation, and feedback from distribution channels. Distinctive covers complement our distinctive approach to technical topics, breathing personality and life into potentially dry subjects. The item on the cover of Mac OS X Unwired is a dog collar. Collars have been worn by dogs to identify both the pets and their owners since humans domesticated the animals. The collar pictured on the cover of this book belonged to Morgaine, a black labrador mix who was adopted in 1991 from Angell Memorial Animal Shelter in Boston at the age of 2. When the Taylor-Lovis family first saw her, Morgaine was laying quietly with a stuffed animal in the back of her cage. After they took her outside, however, she came alive with energy. In the many happy years following her adoption, she would always run as if there were no tomorrow when let her off her leash. Indoors, she continued to be a quiet, extremely well-mannered lady. She lived for her meals and a little loving, and died at age 14 of natural causes. She's remembered by her family as "more than a dog...the best friend we could ever ask for." Philip Dangler was the production editor and copyeditor for Mac OS X Unwired. Sada Preisch was the proofreader. Genevieve d'Entremont and Claire Cloutier provided quality control. John Bickelhaupt wrote the index. Edie Freedman designed the cover of this book. The cover image is an original photograph by Edie Freedman. Emma Colby produced the cover layout with QuarkXPress 4.1 using Adobe's Helvetica Neue and ITC Garamond fonts. David Futato designed the interior layout. This book was converted by Julie Hawks to FrameMaker 5.5.6 with a format conversion toolcreated by Erik Ray, Jason McIntosh, Neil Walls, and Mike Sierra that uses Perl and XML technologies. The text font is Linotype Birka; the heading font is Adobe Helvetica Neue Condensed; and the code font is LucasFont's TheSans Mono Condensed. The illustrations that appear in the book were produced by Robert Romano and Jessamyn Read using Macromedia FreeHand 9 and Adobe Photoshop 6. This colophon was written by Philip Dangler and Tracy Taylor. |
