Comments about O'Reilly Media Mastering Oracle SQL:

Can I say what a great book this is. I am an oracle developer of 7 years experience who has spent the last three concentrating on object orientated Java development. As of two months ago I found myself back in the world of Oracle SQL for reporting and it dawned upon me how rusty I was with Oracle SQL. There have been great advances across 10 and 11g and unless you regularly work with advanced reporting functions it can be difficult to appreciate that it is possible to output varied data in one SQL statement rather than resorting to a logical breakup in PL/SQL. This book covers all depths, from what may appear to be too basic to extremely specialised and complex operations and is always well thought out and clearly explained.

Unlike other reviewers on this site I have had no problems with the examples. I am currently up to chapter 9 and the download issue must have been corrected.

Comments about O'Reilly Media Mastering Oracle SQL:

I'm at the end of chapter 5 at the moment and this is the first book on SQL that I really like! The examples in the book are great, I like the author's writing style as well.
The only problem is sample DB which I downloaded from this site. First examples did work (from previous chapters) but right now most of the time I get "no data found".
I run the queries at Oracle Database Express Edition. Is it possible to get better script to generate the example DB please?

Comments about O'Reilly Media Mastering Oracle SQL:

I was using this book to finish my OCA.
After page 13 I stopped using this book because a lot of examples written down are not working with the downloaded examples.
Most of them are giving errors and I got tired to figure out what was wrong there.

Unfortunately the database downloaded from the O'Reilly's website doesn't work at all with Oracle 10g version.

Comments about O'Reilly Media Mastering Oracle SQL:

I bought this book to give me hands on study material to Oracle SQL. This in fact has been the biggest disappointment in all the books I have bought. What was the author thinking? The book's queries are all addressing parts distributor database. But where the hell is this database apart from some obscure computer of the author?

Unless you want to read a fiction novel, please refrain from getting this book. Personally, I don't understand why the authors would not provide an online database acoompanying this book. Utterly pathetic and horrific excuse of a book. Shame on OReilly to support it.
