I checked this book out at the public library. It so so full of wonderful information about computers. I wish I had it to read or partially read in 1998 before I ever purchased a pc. Several pc's and crashes later. I finally got a little bit smarter by reading information. This book needs to be in the classrooms for students who are interested in pc's or for people who want to purchase pcs. I am now in the process of going to the book store and buying it.

I have the iPad version and at the end of the chapter on networking, it says that the chapter isn't finished, but go on the web and you can get the rest online. I thought that was mildly inconvenient, but went to the place to get the rest of the info. Much to my surprise there wasn't ANYTHING there but info on how to buy the book! You need to honor the promise in the book or not sell the book in the App store!!!!!

I DID'NT LIKE THIS BOOK AT ALL.... I BOUGHT THIS BOOK AT BARNES AND NOBLE BOOKSTORE AND THOUGHT THE INFORMATION LISTED WOULD WALK ME THROUGH OR AT LEAST SHOW ME IN STEPS HOW TO REPAIR AND UPGRADE MY PC. THIS BOOK JUST GIVES YOU NAMES OF GOOD PRODUCTS/MANUFACTURES AND WHEN YOU SHOULD DO WHAT. BUT YOU NEVER TELL "HOW" TO DO SOMETHING!! I AM A DIS SATISFIED CUSTOMER AND WOULD LOVE A REFUND. DON'T BE MAD JUST ACKNOWLEDGE AND SATISFY A WASN'T FOR ME CUSTOMER. I SHOULD COME ABOARD THE WRITING TEAM. AT LEAST ON THE HANDS ON AND HOW TO FORMULAS...LOL!

A retired couple was visiting our house and the man asked me about whether, how often, and how to clean their PC. In the middle of my somewhat stumbling but I think reasonable response, a package was delivered to the door - my copy of Repairing & Upgrading Your PC had arrived. I opened it, turned to the table of contents, then to system cleaning, and handed the book to our friend. He read the short section on system cleaning, closed the book and said, approximately, "I'd better not get into this any further right now" (being polite company). Then, "I can understand this, is this book available? Where can I get a copy?" That is what I mean when I say the Thompson's write well. The information is as complete as one can expect in this rapidly changing world, but you don't need to be some sort of techno nerd to understand what they present. If you are going to delve into your own computer maintenance or add/replace components then this is a darn good place to start, and with this book in hand there is no reason why you should not do so. It will help you make better decisions about what, when, how, and even whether you should bother to upgrade, and probably save you money besides.
