Photoshop Elements 4: The Missing Manual, is for any photographer interested in learning the right editing techniques for producing and sharing beautiful digital photography.

Photoshop Elements 4: The Missing Manual covers the Windows version of the software only. When we published the book, there was no Mac version of the software (as there is now), and for various reasons, we've been unable to update this edition to include the Mac version. Nonetheless, if you're on a Mac, you can use this book. Just substitute Command for Ctrl, and Option for Alt whenever you see keystroke shortcuts, and about 98 percent of the Editor functions will work the same. The sections on the Organizer only apply to Windows because the Mac version has no Organizer.

Great job on the 'Missing Manual'

Comments about oreilly Photoshop Elements 4: The Missing Manual:

I am writing to tell you how much I enjoyed one of your books!

I recently purchased Photoshop Elements 4 and went in search of a manual at my local Barnes and Noble. I found that the tiny manual that came with the software wasn't really telling me the important things I needed to know. There were lots of Photoshop books at the bookstore. I chose one of yours. I think you should find that interesting. Why yours? I selected Barbara Brundage's "The missing manual." It was exactly what I was looking for.1) I'm a little beyond the Photoshop for Dummies level (I had been using Paint shop Pro extensively; I do Virtual Tours and photos for realtors) 2) I enjoy learning from a written paper manual, so I can mark in it and dog-ear it and constantly use it for reference 3) Photoshop is very visual and I need to see the photos of what things will look like in a manual before I try it 4) The combination of expertise by the author and the colorful illustrations showed exactly what I needed (for example, how to set up in the beginning; using the Healing Brush and Photoshop's backup system).

Anyway, tell the author she did a marvelous job. The book also made me check out your website.

Thanks again for the unique niche you are filling.

Pogue Stamp of Approval

Comments about oreilly Photoshop Elements 4: The Missing Manual:

As a subscriber to the NYT I just discovered the multimedia musings of David Pogue. Although I did not know that Paul Reiser had a geek twin brother with an equal sense of humor, I bought this book on his endorsement.

The official Adobe manual is beautifly presented but filled with basics. Another book I found had plenty of tips but was in black and white. This clearly has it all.

What to my surprise when I found that B&N is selling it for 30% off plus you still get your B&N Member discount if you belong. This reduced the price by 37% bringing the cost to $27.USD (Unbelievable Savings Deal).

The book even contains flashbacks to the 60's with subjects such as "Controlling the Colors You See," "Transforming Images," and "Warping Type."

I will certainly report back if this doesn't live up to its apparent quality.
