Comments about O'Reilly Media Programming the Semantic Web:

Excelente book on sematic web. This book is very practical with lots of samples in how to apply semantic web in your projects. I am very new to this world and I can say that this is the perfect introductory book on the subject. I have read other books from the same author Toby and he invites you to gets your hands dirty with his samples and not too much theory which for me is ideal.

      badly needed book

Comments about O'Reilly Media Programming the Semantic Web:

This book is a badly needed link between the exhaustive theorizing on the semantic web and practical implementation. I think, however, the examples could have been less exhaustive. The semantic web is an important add on to ordinary programming, not a replacement for it. Python is a very good language for the semantic web. This book could be expanded into a more extensive tutorial.

semprog.com, where the code is, was not available.

A very readable intro to Semantic Web programming. The web site is unavailable. O'Reilly how about housing the downloadable content at oreilly.com??

Comments about O'Reilly Media Programming the Semantic Web:

This book represents the classic chasm between practical development and theory. I read programming books non-stop, and I credit the basic language books from O'Reilly for helping me become a decent programmer, but this one could have been better.

I wanted to like this book as much as I wanted to like Collective Intelligence. I found them both wanting, neither rigorous enough nor practical enough to make me an expert or a better programmer. Both walk the middle road of mediocrity by trying to do too much.

If you're called to architect a new search engine or product auto suggest for your company on a Friday, and it's due the following Monday, perhaps you can use this book to get up to speed quickly – and you can steal the triples code directly.

If not, you can probably skip both books.

Comments about O'Reilly Media Programming the Semantic Web:

I was so pleased that Toby, Colin, and Jamie were willing to share their collective knowledge on developing semantics. Working towards a semantic solution has been quite challenging since most of the information out there is obscure. This book has definitely provided the light at the end of the funnel. Thanks guys, I truly appreciate it!
