lower level

Comments about oreilly Windows Vista Administration: The Definitive Guide:

I found this book to be slightly lower-level than I would expect from an O'Reilly tome.

I assumed the book would focus mostly on administrative-level tasks, with an eye towards group policy, but instead it seemed geared towards home or small business owners rather than customers working in an enterprise environment.

There were also curious absences: the section on the command prompt for instance, omitted any reference to Powershell, instead focusing on the differences between cmd.exe and command.com, a distinction completely useless to those of us getting up to speed on Powershell. Network Access Protection was also given only a cursory mention, with a line saying that "NAP is entirely setup on the corporate network..."

For a small office or a starting sysadmin, WVA could be useful. But in a larger environment it comes up a little short.

Windows Vista Administration

Comments about oreilly Windows Vista Administration: The Definitive Guide:

A very useful and easy to read publication, "Microsoft Windows Administration" is more than a collection of "recipes". A book administrators and other professionals would be proud to have on their selves.

Starting with the first, and proceeding through to the last chapter, the book's 15 chapters are full of insight and how to-do techniques.

In this highly recommended book, readers are guided through installation and usage of the new and controversial Vista's administrative tools, without forgetting the simpler tasks of installing and troubleshooting Vista.

The publication is easy to read by the average user, yet, the book still covers enough material to interest readers up to higher knowledge levels.
