Comments about oreilly Scripting InDesign CS3/4 with JavaScript:

First know that I am not a coder/programmer person. My progress across the pages will be steady but spaced out a bit.
With this in mind, what I have engaged to this point has been easy to grasp and implement.

Comments about oreilly Scripting InDesign CS3/4 with JavaScript:

I come from years of AppleScipting InDesign, so I already had a good sense of the object model. I've also, in the last couple of years, Done Web/EPUB JavaScript and jQuery, but no experience with taking JS outside of the web DOM.

There are only a couple of books on scripting InDesign, and it's probably worth have a couple; but this is "number 1."

Peter Kahrel is arguably, along with a small handful of others (who are primary contenders), the foremost authority on this topic. And he knows how to explain it.

He covers JavaScript basics, but doesn't get lost in it; the ins and outs of ExtendScript (which I still can't get to like); and the scripting of InDesign, with key insights.

Since I'm primarily trying to get to the place where I can apply my already significant background in ID AS, and get up and running in ID JS, this book — and I've tried several others — was the first that really worked for me.

Thanks for writing (and publishing) this book, really!

Comments about oreilly Scripting InDesign CS3/4 with JavaScript:

This book was a lifesaver for me on the other day. The explanation at the beginning about the Object model was the key to most of my problems. Now that I learned how to address certain elements, my scripts started to work just how I wanted! Thanks again clearing things up!
