      I am working on a WSN project with Xbee and all the tutorials I found on the internet where too basic for what I needed to do. So I bought this book. It explains all the basic concept one needs to know to use Xbee and after reading it I could set a Xbee network for my own application. This book is very easy to read and to refer back to.

      The only thing I missed would be some sort of detail summery of what each example project is doing (on the technical side) before how to implement it. I did not have time to do the example myself and interpreting the code of the projects was sometimes fastidious.

      Overall I recommend this book to anyone who want a fast start with Xbee networks.

      it's hard to write a book for readers at multiple levels. that's where this book loses steam. i've got three years of arduino projects and figured that getting the xbee S2 to work in basic demo mode should be a piece of cake. it's a complicated piece of hardware that does a lot and there is a dearth of tested use cases on the internet. i found the book hard to follow. i think a lab approach - showing specific specs for a number of projects would be better than bouncing in and out of bunny holes with individual commands. one chapter on xctu and assume the reader can issue AT commands.

      we had a small group at my house for several weekends. we got 'doorbell' going but the example generates so much traffic that the arduino shuts down after a few minutes. probably should have put a debounce routine in there.

      the examples seem to assume that we will have one receiver and one transmitter. my objective was to have a single master transmit instructions to a number of slaves. should i use star, or mesh or ? and how to configure?

      the book fails to provide a basic template that can be modified for other uses. it also does not address the complexity of S2 and how to deal with the subtleties of managing serial connections.

      it got me started - but i wound up spending a lot of time figuring out details and in the end bought a different book that takes more of a 'lab' approach.

          I hate to admit it but I think I would have never been able to get a xbee series 2 network up and running without this book holding my hand along the way. There are just so many gotchas in the process that even with the book it can all get pretty frustrating. Thankfully the book has very few technical errors, so when things didn't work I could almost be certain that it was something I did wrong.
