Simply SQL is, simply put, a VERY good book for someone who wants to become better at exploring their database. It does not cater to one specific database 'brand' - it is fairly agnostic in that regard. Nor does it delve deeply into arcane nuances of SQL. It does do an excellent job of explaining how to access the data you need in the majority of cases.
At work, when someone comes to me, wanting to be taught how to get at data and use it for reporting, I loan them my copy of Simply SQL, tell then to follow the examples there, and they will soon know what they need. And that works wonderfully well. (I just have to set a reminder to follow up, to get my book back!)
My only complaint is that it is not available as an eBook.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
