This short book covers Rails 4, the latest version of the framework, and while it's not intended to be a completely comprehensive Rails guide or an in-depth Ruby tutorial, it will quickly get you up to speed with Rails and give you the confidence to start experimenting on your own.

The book is built around a real-life example project: a personal portfolio site. It's a fun and easily understandable project that is used to demonstrate the concepts outlined in the book in a practical way.

Comments about oreilly Jump Start Rails:

The approach covered in this jump start seems to be in the right direction. It could have been a success if there was a good support to get around all the bugs (mostly caused by 3rd party gems changing design and bleeding edge). I did manage to work out all the bugs by searching on the net but I admit that sometimes it's frustrating and I had to take breaks. But it was fun debugging. I would recommend with caveats.

Comments about oreilly Jump Start Rails:

There are too many errors that keep happening while progressing through the book. The source code online doesn't have the finished version of examples, so you never see the solution that supposedly would not have problems. Plus, it's not really a jump start, more like a glance. If you get confused or lost, you're out of luck.
