Make: Rockets
Down-to-Earth Rocket Science
Publisher: Maker Media, Inc
Final Release Date: August 2014
Pages: 520

This book teaches the reader to build rockets--powered by compressed air, water, and solid propellant--with the maximum possible fun, safety, and educational experience.

Make: Rockets is for all the science geeks who look at the moon and try to figure out where Neil Armstrong walked, watch in awe as rockets lift off, and want to fly their own model rockets. Starting with the basics of rocket propulsion, readers will start out making rockets made from stuff lying around the house, and then move on up to air-, water-, and solid propellant-powered rockets. Most of the rockets in the book can be built from parts in the Estes Designer Special kit.

    Comments about oreilly Make: Rockets:

This book is a well-written, well-organized manual for every type of hobby rocket enthusiast. Air rockets, water rockets, "Estes" type rockets, even medium and high-powered rockets. I found it to be exceptionally helpful as it introduced me to some rockets that I haven't (yet) dabbled in.

I am particularly impressed with the simple, foolproof electric launch system for model rockets.

I look forward to building some of the basic rocket designs in the book.

      Comments about oreilly Make: Rockets:

This book is great. It is so very accessible and easy to follow, and what I think makes it a keeper is that it has a wide range of topics. There are projects and concepts for everyone - from beginners to experienced rocketeers. On top of that, it is accommodating to different learning styles. If you are looking to learn why and how rockets work, you will enjoy reading the very clear explanations of the physical concepts behind them. If you are the more hands on type, you can get right down to the business of building and seeing the action. I look forward to sharing this book with my kids and picking out projects and lessons to do together. It's definitely a book that I will be dipping into over and over again throughout the years.
