Comments about oreilly Learning Big Data with Amazon Elastic MapReduce:

This is a good introduction to a topic that can be rather complex by its nature.
Starting with a point in time reference to AWS, this book goes on to cover the fundamentals of what is MapReduce along with how to set up and IDE and write some basic code. Exactly what you would expect to see with a Packt book starting with Learning. Helpfully, there are also code examples.

I am new to MapReduce/Hadoop etc, this book gave me a good point of reference as to what I could actually do with Elastic MapReduce.
So why four stars and not five? The book may be a little too gentle in its introduction, but I don't consider that a flaw. I am concerned about any books longevity however when AWS or any other cloud provider are involved as there is so much change that keeping up with the terminology changes alone can cause issues. So while the components on MapReduce alone are really good insights into this service, make absolutely certain that you read the docs at AWS as more than likely there have been changes!

Comments about oreilly Learning Big Data with Amazon Elastic MapReduce:

This book provides a nice introduction on using Amazon MapReduce.
This book filled in the gaps of my understanding and improved my intuition for how map-reduce works. The book is well-organized,clear and concise.
one can really understand on how to start-of with Amazon EMR. The book also contains many diagrams to add clarity and a good start of on amazon mr.

on the flip side some of the chapters are too concise and i would like to see more elaborative description especially on performance tuning.
