Comments about oreilly Google Apps Script for Beginners:

The book is right when it says you must be quite fluent in JavaScript. But that is essential anyway to use Google Apps Script and the book gives a good feeling for the breadth of what can be done and how one might set about using it. Not for a beginning coder but quite useful for someone with a reasonable JavaScript background. Also gives some very nice references for further learning, well selected.

Comments about oreilly Google Apps Script for Beginners:

With all due respect to the author, this was not a very good book for beginners. The book often consists of 2-3 pages of code from a full project kind of dumped into the book. The author says, "just look at the online documentation and the comments in the code to understand." I understand that is probably how the author learned, but it's kind of disappointing as the reader.

In conclusion it's just really bizarre to call it a "beginner" book when the author uses intermediate coding concepts with no explanation. Maybe it wasn't the authors choice for the title and it was a marketing decision by the publisher?

Comments about oreilly Google Apps Script for Beginners:

In our company, we exclusively use Google Apps. I bought the book because I needed to automate some tasks in Spreadsheets, Sites and Forms.

The book is in my opinion very clear and comprehensively explains all the key options GAS. I very much appreciated the chapter on creating a GUI script to run as Web applications. Create a nice GUI is possible in several ways and it's not always so simple. The code presented in the book can be downloaded as a zip package.

With an understanding of the examples I had no problem, but I think it is necessary to know the basics of Javascript.

Some examples from the book I edited and use them;)
