Comments about oreilly Learning Objective-C by Developing iPhone Games:

First off, My background in programming is in no way extensive...I completed an intro. programming course using html and php designing website applications. I do know the gist of programming as far as control structures, various programming language syntax, algorithms etc...I've also created several websites. I was kinda skeptical about buying this book seeing that you'd learn how to program with a rather difficult language to learn as your first. C is challenging....any object oriented language will be even more difficult because you know have to deal with objects and it's related data. This is a 300 pg book. My intro book was 550 long, college size text, no picture, textbook but I learned how to program well. Sorry for those reading this thinking you can learn how to program in 30 or even 60 days. unless your doing nothing but that. Not too mention with Apple's new swift language, Xcode and the need to learn Cocoa and it's framework....yeah it'll be a while before you make any decent apps. Either way, as I figured the intro to this book is decent discussing Xcode and basic programming structure but It's far from a sound understanding of the fundamentals of programming. They basically throw out definitions with one or two examples. I read all the intro pages in less than two day(two eight hr days). I am saying this because many will purchase this thinking it's too difficult or abstract when in reality the book just doesn't have enough space to explain. I found myself constantly searching additional content on related subject when it came to the Object side. Either way I plan on finishing it.....the way I see it is a start is better than doing nothing. My suggestion would be to learn a simple programming language like PHP, Python, Basic and programming itself. Then move into Objective C. If your in the US i tell people. I have to learn english and grammar before you can learn other languages, if that makes any sense.
