Comments about oreilly Sixty Tips for Creative iPhone Photography:

Martina Holmberg gives us a well written, attractive book filled with practical advice and fun suggestions for getting the most from your iPhone's camera. The book is nicely designed and each page filled with artsy photos taken and processed on the iPhone. The sixty tips are short and encouraging and touch on basic composition, experimentation, workflow and app use. Holmberg seems to have a preferred look, though there is plenty of variety and she brings in guest photographers whose photos have different looks. Each photo is accompanied by the app or apps used to take and process it. Holmberg covers several excellent iOS apps and lists them all in the back.

Holmberg shows us ways to break the mold of conventional snapshots and explore the amazing capabilities that the iPhone camera and its apps give us. Anyone who takes her advice to experiment and have fun will produce better photos and maybe see the small details around them in new ways. I rarely give five stars to a book, but this one is nicely designed and bound, gives well rounded advice and beautiful examples and is small enough to carry around while I experiment. It fills its purpose well.

[Full disclosure: I received this book as a member of a tech user group.]

Comments about oreilly Sixty Tips for Creative iPhone Photography:

UPS delivered SIXTY TIPS FOR CREATIVE IPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY yesterday afternoon. I couldn't wait to finish work and start reading it. I didn't get home until 9:30 pm and promised myself I'd read just a few pages. By tip 4 I had already learned 6 new features of the iphone camera that I couldn't wait to try out. It's amazing. Over the year I have shot over 6000 pictures with my iphone and thought I knew everything. It has frustrated me at times - too slow to get the camera ready, no zoom, focusing issues etc. This book is full of good tips and suggestions. It turns the camera's negatives into ways of using them to expand your creativity. Anyone who uses the camera on their phone will be in for multi-surprises. It not only explores how to take better pictures with functional tools, this book shows you how to have fun taking pictures. Now enjoy. I highly recommend this.
